Information for Parents
Welcome to our School
Bakewell Methodist Junior School (BMJS) is situated in the historic Peak district town of Bakewell. We offer a lively and interesting curriculum delivered by enthusiastic, skilled teachers in a caring family environment. The children tell us they are happy and safe at school and the parents tell us they are pleased with the progress their children make. The behaviour of our children is very good and parents report that children are listened to and cared for at school. The staff are always keen to listen to and work with parents to resolve any difficulties at an early stage. We have a robust anti-bullying policy and our parents say that incidents that might lead to bullying are effectively dealt with.
We have a strong focus on English and maths, making sure each individual child reaches their full potential. We are constantly striving to improve our practice and provision for the benefit of our children.
Our school celebrates achievements in sport and music. We have a strong choir, which involves all pupils and usually includes more than half of the school. Y4 children are taught a stringed instrument in their music lessons, and we encourage a variety of instrument teachers to offer lessons at the school. We employ a qualified sports coach and our large hall and extensive outdoor play area ensure high quality provision, which means that all children begin to develop skills for a long and healthy life.
We use the outdoors to run a successful and enjoyable Forest School programme.
We work closely with Bakewell Infant School, www.bakewell-inf.derbyshire.sch.uk to ensure morning and evening routines are convenient for parents and fun for children. Children from both schools can access wrap-around care - Acorns and Little Oaks - at our school.
Headteacher, Sarah Owens, is always happy for you to come and have a look around the school to see what we offer for your child.
