Sport and PE

Bakewell Methodist Junior School (BMJS) attends all the Primary Cluster School Sports events and activities.  The teaching and playing of sports promotes the children learning teamwork, respect and good manners as well as them gaining experience in new environments and making new friends.

Here are details of a few recent sports events we've attended.

Summer Sports (Y3)

Our year three children travelled to Youlgrave in May to take part alongside other schools in some summer sports activities.

Activities included golf, relay races, cricket and rounders.

Cricket (Y5/6)

On 26th May two teams of Y5/6 children attended the cricket event at Youlgrave. Our children behaved really well and had a great afternoon!

All children took part in a variety of games to warm up and improve their cricket skills. Later in the afternoon, the games began and one of our teams made it into the 'large school final'. Our team won the final and we now have a new trophy to add to our collection!

Indoor Athletics (Y5/6)

In January a group of year 5/6 children travelled to Graves Health and Sports Centre in Sheffield. The afternoon involved taking part in a variety of athletics activities. Different stations were set up covering skills such as long jump, high jump and relay racing.

We were really proud of the children's behaviour and effort during the afternoon.

Tag Rugby (Y5/6)

The afternoon began with a series of games to develop skills and teamwork. Later in the afternoon we took part in the competition. Our year 5/6 team came first! They played incredibly well in the final against Longstone and showed fantastic teamwork.
