Languages

Intent

A high quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching of MFL at Bakewell Methodist Junior school is predominantly based on French with a little added German to support the transition to Lady Manners where pupils have access to both languages in Year 7.

The teaching of MFL at Bakewell juniors enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts into another language and to understand and respond both in speech and writing. We provide opportunities for pupils to communicate, learn new ways of thinking and gain a greater understanding of culture.

Aims

  • Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
  • Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity.
  • Continually improving the accuracy of pronunciation and intonation.
  • Can write at varying length for different purposes and audiences.

Implementation

The teaching and implementation of our MFL Curriculum, is based on the National curriculum, ensuring a clear, comprehensive and well-structured approach to the subject.

The children follow sequences of learning in the following key areas which, when put together, all contribute towards the confident development of the language studied. (Predominantly French with added German basics)
